As a healthcare organization, we value and cherish every life. So, it is with heavy hearts that we have witnessed brutality, inequality and the tragic loss of Black lives. The Hamzavi Dermatology/Dermatology Specialists (HD/DS) group has had the honor of serving a diverse group of patients that we consider family. This moment in time is about our Black family members— our colleagues, patients and the Black community at large. Thus:
- We firmly stand in solidarity with the Black community, now and always.
- We speak out when we see injustice
- We empathize with the pain, fear, anxiety and anger so many are feeling; while recognizing we will never understand the full extent
- We listen
- We have the hard conversations
Our group may not always get it right, but we are here with ears to listen, an open mind to receive feedback and a heart that yearns for meaningful progress.
For our part, we are committed to incorporating implicit bias training throughout our organization— we all have blind spots and need to address these within ourselves first, if we want to see real change in the world. The HD/DS family was built on the principle of inclusivity and we will continue to strive towards this goal in the Black community.
